Doug's family has a wacky Valentines tradition. They leave treats on each other's doorstep, ring the doorbell and run away (doorbell ditching, if you will). Everyone goes from house to house (and oft times we are out at the same time) leaving treats. By the way, thank you for the pizza last night, Grandma M., that was a wonderful valentines treat.
So we spent the morning preparing chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and applesauce oatmeal cookies to share with everyone. Then we drove from house to house dropping them off and trying to be sneaky about it. The children had a lot of fun! I guess doorbell ditching is a skill every child should acquire. My children sure enjoy it. (And yes, they practice on me at home all the time.) At first I didn't want the girls to get out of the car. I tried to convince them to just let Dad do it. But seeing the laughter and excitement on their faces as they hid around the corner of the first house and then ran for the car trying to hide was too great to not let them do it over and over again. I thought about trying to get pictures of this to put on the blog, but really, how do you take pictures of your children hiding without giving them away. Anyway, it is a crazy tradition, but a whole lot of fun. Of course, it is also great to be on the receiving end when the children open the door and no one is there, but then they realize there are treats on the porch and someone got us too. All in all, good times. More of you should try this!
That is a fun family tradition, we may have to borrow that idea.
ReplyDeleteWe use to do the same thing growing up. I thought everyone just did that...then I met other people in the world than my fam. I love it. Nice to know that others have that fun tradition!!
